What happens when two people answer at once | PowerDialer.ai Help

How parallel dialing resolves simultaneous answers: who gets connected, what the others hear, and what is logged against them.

Twelve customers have asked this and nobody has reported it as broken — it is the mechanic that is unclear, not the behaviour. This is the single most common question about parallel dialing.

The short version

A parallel dialer places several calls at once and connects you to the first person who answers. You are one person, so you can only have one conversation. The question is what happens to the others.

Why it works this way

Dialing one number at a time means a rep spends most of the hour listening to ringing, voicemail and dead lines. Dialing several at once moves the waiting off the rep. The cost of that is the case you are asking about: sometimes two people answer within the same second.

Which call you get

The first answered call is connected to you. It is a race, decided by the carrier, not a preference you set.

What the others experience

This is the part worth being precise about, and it is the part a human at PowerDialer should confirm for your configuration — the behaviour depends on how the dialer is set to handle a simultaneous answer. The two possibilities are that the extra calls are dropped before any audio, or that they are answered and released. The difference matters: the first is invisible to the person, the second is a very short call they will notice.

Ask support which applies to your account before you run a high-volume campaign, and read the abandoned-call rules that apply where you are calling. If you need the number, support can give it to you; this page will not guess at it.

What gets logged

Each number you dialled gets an outcome, including the ones you did not speak to. That is what makes the next pass possible — you can see who was reached, who was not, and who should not be called again.

If you want none of this

Parallel dialing is the right tool when there are enough numbers that waiting is your bottleneck. Below that it adds this complication for no gain. A power dialer, which dials one number after another automatically, has none of it. See which dialer type fits.
